Oona Flood wins San Diego County Spelling Bee

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Oona Flood of Earl Warren Middle School in Solana Beach, won the 46th annual San Diego County Spelling Bee on Thursday by correctly spelling “fuliginous”.

Fuliginous is an adjective and means “sooty” or “dusky”.

More than 100 seventh and eight grade students took part in the spelling bee, and Oona beat out three other competitors who made it to the final round.

Oona will now move on to represent San Diego County in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., in May.
