Operation Soldier’s Gratitude holds fundraising event

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — Operation Solder’s Gratitude hosted a fundraising event Monday to say "thank you" to those who have helped our troops throughout the years.

The event aimed at raising awareness and money for Homes for Our Troops, a 501 (c) (3) organization that builds special adaptive mortgage free homes for veterans throughout San Diego County and across the country and Sentinels of Freedom Scholarship Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) organization that provides assistance through job internships, mentoring, and financial assistance to assist with their challenging career changes.

The event was hosted by SFC Chris Montera, a San Diego native who was injured in March 2012 while on a combat mission in Afghanistan. Chris suffered third degree burns over 60 percent of his body, a spinal cord injury, and bilateral, above the knee amputations. He has faced the challenges of recovery with courage and humility these past four years with the support of his family, friends, and many from the San Diego Sportfishing Community.

The event guest speaker for the evening was former assemblyman and veterans advocate Nathan Fletcher.

Below is the link to Chris’s Homes for Our Troops video that is sure to provide an understanding of the significance of this organization and the great work they do for so many.
