Otay Ranch 35, Granite Hills 20

Otay Ranch Mustangs move on to the semi-finals in the division 2 playoffs as they took down Granite Hills 35-20. Many fans called this an upset win but the Mustangs knew they were in it to win it from the start. Even though the Mustangs were trailing 14-0 at halftime, they stepped up in the second half as Adrian Rodriguez gained the teams momentum by taking it 55 yards on a screen catch. Rodriguez then went on defense the following drive and intercepted the ball, which lead to a touchdown for the Mustangs. The Granite Hills Eagles had trouble snapping the ball today. Two bad high snaps caused a safety and a touchdown for the Mustang defense. Mustang’s defense was led by Sergio Ayon who had a monster game and was laying some hard hits on the Eagles. The Eagles showed their heart in this game as they didn’t give up and tried to make a late comeback but fell short. The Eagles end their season with a 9-2 record and a great season to look back to. They will look to come back next year with star quarterback Jacob Siegfried.  The Mustangs will face Rancho Bernardo next week in a highly anticipated game.

PREVIEW:

It is Week 13 for San Diego high school football and also quarterfinals for playoffs. This week we have a division two match-up as the third seed Granite Hills Eagles (9-1) host the sixth seed Otay Ranch Mustangs (6-5). Granite Hills has had extra time to rest as they are coming off a bye week. The Eagles are on an 8 game win streak and their only loss coming in a tight game against the number one seed Valhalla. The Eagles defense has been outstanding as they have only allowed an average of 10 points a game all season. Otay’s offense will need more than 10 points to take down the Eagles.

Sophomore quarterback Jacob Siegfried and senior running back Thomas Youmog have been unstoppable this season as they look to continue their offense this week. Not only their offense but their defense has been the talk all season as PPR Silver Pigskin finalist Jacob Burton will look to shut down the Mustangs offense. The Mustang offense is led by senior backup quarterback Arturo Saenz as starter Oscar Limon is out with an injury. Saenz had no problem carry the load in Week 12 as he stepped up and threw for two touchdowns and rushed for one. Saenz’s favorite target will be Adrian Rodriguez as he has had a tremendous season as a receiver and also a kick/punt returner. The Mustang defense is led by Sergio Ayon as he leads the team in tackles.

Both teams a step away from the semifinals but who will take the leap? Tune in to KUSI’s Prep Pigskin Report at 10:30 for your highlights of this game and all the other playoff games in the county. For live updates, follow @redjacketarmy on Twitter.
