Overnight closures scheduled on I-805 in Chula Vista

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — Overnight lane and ramp closures are planned along Interstate 805 (I-805) between East Orange Avenue/Olympic Parkway and Telegraph Canyon Road in Chula Vista Sunday through Thursday from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m.

The closures are required to accommodate work on I-805 and the East Palomar Street Bridge, including restriping of the freeway and installation of decorative fencing on the bridge.

During work hours, up to three lanes will be closed in each direction along I-805 and intermittent closures of the northbound on-ramp and southbound off-ramp at East Orange Avenue/Olympic Parkway and the southbound on-ramp and northbound off-ramp at Telegraph Canyon Road will occur.

At least one lane will remain open at all times. Travelers are urged to allow extra time to reach their destination or consider using alternate routes.

The construction at East Palomar Street is part of the I-805 South Express Lanes Project, a $1.1 billion effort to create a modern new transportation backbone for South County. The project will provide a connection between East Palomar Street and I-805 for South Bay Rapid when the transit service begins in 2018.

Motorists are reminded to slow and to move over a lane when safe to do so when highway workers are present and amber lights are flashing.
