Overturned truck bursts into flames on I-5

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – A box truck on Interstate 5 burst into flames at approximately 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

Witnesses reported seeing the truck overturn on the southbound lanes of the interstate before it caught fire near the Washington Street exit.

First responders shut down all the southbound lanes as they worked to put out the blaze, according to the California Highway Patrol. Paramedics
responded to the scene but an injury report on those involved in the crash was not immediately available.

The accident sent smoke into the air that was visible from State Route 125 and a cleanup crew was en route to pick up the contents of the overturned truck.

The cleanup was expected to take hours, according to the CHP.
