Pair of arson fires erupt in City Heights
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, a pair of of apparent arson fires erupted early Tuesday in City Heights.
The area has been plagued by a series of intentionally set blazes this month, according to authorities.
Someone torched two discarded mattresses in the 5200 Landis Street shortly before 1 a.m. and ignited the contents of a commercial garbage bin a block away about a half-hour later, said the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
Fire crews and police officers were able to extinguish the fires, but they caused a combined damage of roughly $1,000, said SDFRD Capt. Joe Amador.
“There have been some pretty close calls,” Amador said.
He declined to give any details as the investigation continues, and he did not mention any suspects that the investigation might have identified.
