Pair of October suspicious deaths ruled murder-suicide

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) Sheriff’s Homicide Friday ruled a pair of suspicious October deaths to be a murder-suicide.

The Medical Examiner’s Office ruled 16-year-old Emily Jean Kaminski died of a fatal overdose of prescription medication and the manner of death was homicide.

Kaminski died at the hands of her grandmother, Marshelle Marie Newby, Homicide ruled. The Medical Examiner’s Office also ruled 55-year-old Marshelle Marie Newby died of a fatal overdose of prescription medication and themanner of death was suicide.

On October 14th, 2015 deputies from the Rancho San Diego Sheriff’s Station responded to 4108 Avoyer Place in the unincorporated area of La Mesa for a reported discovery of two deceased females.

Due to the circumstances surrounding the event, Sheriff’s Homicide responded as well and handled the investigation. The autopsy of both
decedents has been completed.
