Parolee pleads guilty to stabbing bouncer at North Park strip club

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A parolee who stabbed a bouncer trying to keep him from skipping out on a bar tab at a North Park strip club last year pleaded guilty today to robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.

Omar Esteban Lara, 28, who has been to prison three times for drug and robbery convictions, will be sentenced to 18 years behind bars on May 3.

According to police, a bouncer at Tens Showclub followed Lara out of the club in the 4300 block of Ohio Street about 1 a.m. last June 19, telling Lara he had neglected to pay his bill.

During an ensuing confrontation, Lara pulled out a knife and stabbed the 35-year-old bouncer several times, including once in the neck, then ran off. Though slashed and bleeding, the victim chased Lara, tackled him and held him until police arrived, police said.

Co-defendant Kevin Burch, 31, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly trying to run down the victim with his car, prosecutor Matthew Williams said. Burch's trial is set for April 18.
