Passenger killed in early morning accident on I-805

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – The northbound Interstate 805 transition ramp to Interstate 8 was closed for several hours early Monday after a small pickup truck spun out and struck a tow truck, killing someone, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The fatality on northbound I-805 at eastbound Interstate 8 occurred around 2:30 a.m., the CHP reported on its website.

A SigAlert was in effect until 5:15 a.m., while the scene was cleaned up and evidence was gathered.

The tow truck driver was stopped on the side of the road, where its driver had gotten out to tend to some equipment when the crash occurred. The pickup truck narrowly missed the tow truck driver, who, along with the pickup truck's driver, was taken to a hospital with injuries. A passenger in the pickup truck, however, died at the scene.
