Pedestrian fatally struck in Oceanside

OCEANSIDE (KUSI) – A pedestrian was killed Tuesday night while walking alongside State Route 78 in Oceanside, the crash remained under investigation Wednesday morning.

A 2014 Chevy Silverado veered to the side of the westbound lanes near Jefferson Street for unknown reasons and struck the man shortly before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, California Highway Patrol Officer Jim Bettencourt said. The victim died at the scene and has not been identified.

The 26-year-old Escondido man behind the wheel of the pickup truck was not injured and was not suspected of driving under the influence of drugs or
alcohol, Bettencourt said.
