Pedestrian in critical condition after being struck by vehicle

CHULA VISTA (KUSI) – A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in Chula Vista, and is now in critical condition.

According to a Chula Vista police statement, witnesses told police the victim had been obstructing southbound traffic on Third Avenue near K Street shortly before the crash around 8 p.m. Wednesday.

He then stepped up onto the sidewalk, but fell back into the lanes and was struck by a vehicle.

The pedestrian was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center and was listed in critical condition, police said.   

The driver was not suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and stayed at the scene following the crash, according to the police statement.
