Pedestrian killed, three others injured in Chula Vista crash
CHULA VISTA (KUSI) – A construction vehicle crashed off a South Bay street Monday afternoon, killing a pedestrian and injuring three other people, including two children.
The work truck veered out of a northbound traffic lane in the 500 block of Fourth Avenue in Chula Vista and hit several parked vehicles shortly after 1 p.m., according to Chula Vista police.
One of the struck vehicles, a pickup truck, was pushed forward and hit a pedestrian, who wound up trapped underneath it, Lt. Buddy Magor said. A woman and child standing next to a nearby car and a second juvenile inside the vehicle also were injured.
Emergency crews freed the pedestrian and took him to UCSD Medical Center in San Diego, where he was pronounced dead. His name was not immediately available.
The woman and children were taken to hospitals for treatment of apparently minor injuries, Magor said.
It was unclear why the driver of the construction truck lost control of the vehicle.
Police closed traffic lanes in the area to allow for investigation and cleanup.
