Pedestrian seriously injured when struck by car in Carlsbad

CARLSBAD (KUSI) – A man was seriously injured when he was struck by a car in Carlsbad Saturday night, police said Sunday.

Just before 10 p.m. Saturday, officers received reports of a pedestrian struck by a car, and headed to El Camino Real near Kelly Drive, where they found a 30-year-old man lying unresponsive in the roadway, Carlsbad police Lt. Steve Thomas said.

The man “sustained very serious injuries” and was taken to Palomar Medical Center, Thomas said.

The driver who struck the man remained at the scene to be interviewed by officers and was not arrested.

There was no information on how the crash may have occurred, and investigators were still looking into the cause.
