Pedestrian struck and killed in Kearny Mesa by suspected drunk driver
SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A 71-year-old man was fatally struck by a suspected drunken driver behind the wheel of a Toyota Scion in Kearny Mesa early Tuesday, authorities said.
The fatality in the 7800 block of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard was reported at 2:45 a.m., according to San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros.
A patrol officer found the pedestrian's body in the westbound lanes and shortly thereafter, spotted a vehicle about 200 yards away, Delimitros said.
The driver of the vehicle — a male — was sitting outside of it, Delimitros said, adding that he was intoxicated and arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and vehicular manslaughter.
Little was immediately known about the victim, according to the county coroner's office, which identified him as a 71-year-old Caucasian man.
