Pedestrian struck by vehicle in Vista died at Hospital

VISTA (KUSI) – A 35-year-old man who was seriously injured when he was struck by a vehicle on a Vista street has died of his injuries, authorities reported Friday.

The crash happened shortly before 1:05 a.m. Thursday in the 300 block of Vista Village Drive, San Diego County Sheriff’s Sgt. Hernan Gonzalez said.

Deputies responded to the scene and found the man lying in the middle of the eastbound lanes of Vista Village Drive, Gonzalez said.

“The pedestrian appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and sustained numerous injuries,” the sergeant said.

The victim was taken to Palomar Medical Center, where he was admitted in serious condition and later pronounced dead around 4 p.m. Thursday, Gonzalez said.

The 23-year-old woman behind the wheel of the vehicle that struck the man remained at the scene and cooperated with deputies, he said.

Investigators from the sheriff’s Vista traffic division were looking into the circumstances leading up to the crash.
