Five people rescued near Point Loma after boat capsizes
Emergency crews came to the rescue of five people, including two children, who were tossed into the ocean off the coast of Point Loma on Monday when an inflatable boat capsized in rough surf.
The 19-foot outboard-motor boat flipped over in heavy waves about 1:30 p.m. during a sightseeing tour, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
Lifeguards and harbor-police officers responded and helped the group through shallow water, onto the rocky shoreline and up a seaside bluff to safety, SDFRD spokesman Maurice Luque said. No injuries were reported.
A salvage company was called in to retrieve the foundered vessel.
