Phoenix man walking on I-8 shoulder struck, killed by vehicle
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — A man walking along the shoulder of the Eastbound Interstate 8 Tuesday was found face-down after being struck by a vehicle, police said.
A trucker found the man along the shoulder of the EB I-8 shortly after 10:30 p.m. and called for help. When CHP arrived to the scene, the 45-year-old Phoenix man was able to tell them he was struck by an unknown vehicle while walking on the shoulder of the freeway.
CHP loaded the man into an ambulance bound to the Viejas Casino where an air ambulance was on standby but succumbed to his injuries en route, CHP said.
The man was likely headed to the nearby Golden Acorn Casino because his vehicle had run out of gas CHP said. Dense fog with 50 feet visibility may habve been a factor in the collision, police say.
Although the make and model of the vehicle that struck the victim was not immediately known, CHP officials said it most likely has damage to the right front.
Anyone with information is asked to call CHP: (619) 401-2000.
