Pickup truck hit by train in Oceanside
OCEANSIDE (CNS) – A Sprinter train hit a pickup truck that crossed onto a stretch of tracks in Oceanside Monday, damaging it, but not causing any injuries.
The accident occurred shortly before 3:30 p.m., when the driver’s foot slipped off the brake at a rail crossing in the 1100 block of Oceanside Boulevard, causing the Ford F-150 to roll in front of the westbound train, according to sheriff’s officials.
The operator of the light rail train was unable to stop in time to keep it from hitting the truck, Deputy Jeffrey Houser said.
The impact caused moderately serious damage to the pickup truck and minor dents and scrapes to the train.
At the time of the mishap, railroad crossing gates were down at the intersection, and warning lights and bells were activated, Houser said.
