PLNU’s ready to dance along Sunset Cliffs as top seed

You’ll have to excuse Point Loma Nazarene if they don’t carry the dough eyed excitement of a Pac West champion that’s earned the top seed in the NCAA DII Men’s Basketball Tournament.

A grand accomplishment? Absolutely. A new accomplishment? Not so much. The pinnacle of accomplishments? That’s yet to come, they hope.

“Last year we turned the corner,” head coach Ryan Looney said, “We were in the NCAA tournament a year ago, and we return a bunch of players from that roster.”

Despite the normalcy, there’s still a buzz around the 117 year old campus. The Green Sea has never seen a team quite like this – one with looming forwards, and a six foot eight junior guard that is on track to be drafted into the NBA in June.

“Around campus it’s been cool the last couple of days,” guard Daulton Hommes said. “There’s not an easy game. There’s a target on our backs.”
