Police seek public’s health in mysterious Oceanside death
OCEANSIDE (KUSI) – Monday 1:57 p.m. – Authorities reached out to the public Monday for help in determining what led to the death of an unidentified man found fatally injured on a roadway near Buena Vista Lagoon on New Year’s Day.
The man, who appeared to have been about 40, was found lying in a bicycle lane alongside the 2100 block of South Coast Highway in Oceanside with trauma to his face and head about 8:30 p.m. Friday, according to police.
Medics took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Lt. Leonard Cosby said. The county Medical Examiner’s Office has been unable to determine the source of the man’s injuries and has made no ruling on the manner of his death.
Detectives are investigating the fatality as a suspicious death, the lieutenant said. Anyone who might be able to provide information about the case was asked to call the Oceanside Police Department at (760) 435-4892.
Saturday 12:55 p.m. – Police today were investigating the mysterious death of a man found on the street Friday night.
According to Oceanside Police Lt. Leonard Cosby, at 8:40 p.m., Oceanside police officers responded to a call of a man down in the street in the 2100 block of S. Coast Highway.
"Officers found a white man, approximately 40 years old, on the ground with injuries to his face and the back of his head,” Cosby said.
Cosby said paramedics provided medical aid then transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment.
"Shortly after arriving at the hospital, the victim was pronounced dead,” Cosby said.
A death investigation by Oceanside police detectives was ongoing.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending an autopsy to determine his cause of death.
