Police investigate officer-involved shooting in Mission Valley

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – 9:42 a.m. – A man who was threatening people with a box cutter inside a Mission Valley store was killed when he advanced on an officer with the same weapon, police said Friday.

Authorities received a call just after midnight amid reports than a man in his 50s had made threats towards, and was chasing, an employee around the CVS in the 5600 block of Mission Center Road.

Upon arriving at the scene, an officer told the suspect to drop his weapon, but when the man refused and advanced on the officer, the lawman was forced to open fire. The suspect, whose name was being withheld, died at the scene.

7:57 a.m. – Police on Friday were investigating a late-night shooting involving an officer that left one man dead in Mission Valley.

The shooting was reported just after midnight in the 5600 block of Mission Center Road. The events of the incident, which took place in front of a CVS store, were not immediately known and were still under investigation.

One suspect was shot and killed, and no officer-related injuries were reported.
