Police investigating fatal Carlsbad overpass crash

CARLSBAD (KUSI) – An investigation was underway Tuesday into a crash that claimed the life of a 67-year-old pedestrian on a freeway overpass in Carlsbad.

The victim was struck by a southbound pickup truck as he was walking across the Jefferson Street bridge over Interstate 5 at around 5:20 p.m. Monday, according to Carlsbad police.

He died at the scene and his name has yet to be made public. The 51-year-old man behind the wheel of the truck was apparently uninjured and was not suspected of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, police said.
