Police investigating murder in National City

NATIONAL CITY (CNS) – The nude, bloodied body of a South Bay apartment
manager — reportedly a registered sex offender — was found early Tuesday on the
doorstep of his residence, where he was stabbed to death by an unidentified
assailant.

A tenant of the complex in the 300 block of Norton Avenue in National
City reported discovering the body about 1 a.m., according to police. The
victim's name was withheld pending family notification.

Officers found a bloody knife inside the manager's apartment, and his
silver 1998 Chevrolet Suburban SUV, California license number 4ANE923, was
missing, Lt. Jose Tellez told reporters.

Neighbors said the victim was a registered sex offender. Police declined
to comment on those statements, but an online database run by the state
Department of Justice lists a 53-year-old sex-crime registrant as living at the
complex where the slaying occurred. According to the website, the man was
convicted of molesting a child under age 14.

The victim was known to have frequent visitors to his residence,
according to Tellez.

“There's a lot of people coming and going from this apartment, so it's
unknown if perhaps the (killer and victim) were acquaintances,” Tellez told
news crews.

Investigators believe the assailant also might have been wounded during
the slaying and left blood behind, the lieutenant said.
