Police officer accused of smuggling
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – A Los Angeles police officer and a woman were charged on Monday with smuggling. A 26-year-old Mexican man was found hidden in their car when they were stopped at the Otay Mesa border crossing.
On Saturday, both Carlos Curiel Quezada Jr., 34, and 31-year-old Angelica Godinez, drove a white 2014 Nissan Jukes through the border crossing when their vehicle was flagged for further inspection. An imaging device similar to an X-ray detected something out of the ordinary in the Nissan’s rear cargo area.
Upon inspection, the 26-year-old man was found, and the police officer and passenger were arrested and booked into the Metropolitan Correctional Center.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, both were charged with a single count of “bringing in illegal alien(s) without presentation.”
The Los Angeles police officer is a ten-year veteran who was assigned to the Hollywood Station, and has now been reassigned to home duty, with pay, pending further legal proceedings, according to Los Angeles Police Department.
