Police officer injured in scuffle with domestic violence suspect
SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A police officer suffered a possible broken ankle Wednesday during a scuffle with a man who got into a dispute with his ex-wife over child custody issues on a Midway-area roadside.
The struggle erupted about 3:40 p.m., after the father resisted turning over the couple's two toddlers to the mother near a parking structure in the 3200 block of Kettner Boulevard, according to San Diego police.
While grappling with the man, the officer fell to the ground and twisted his ankle, SDPD public affairs Lt. Andra Brown said. Medics took him to Sharp Memorial Hospital for treatment of a possible lower-leg fracture, she said.
The father, whose name was not immediately available, was arrested on suspicion of assault on a peace officer.
