Police pursuit ends in Chollas as suspect tried to flee on foot

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – A motorist who fled a traffic stop Wednesday on Interstate 15 in City Heights led police on a short pursuit that ended when he pulled over in Chollas View and made a failed attempt to escape on foot.

The man, who had a female passenger in his black 2005 Toyota SUV, refused to yield shortly before 10 a.m. when an officer tried to stop him for an equipment violation near El Cajon Boulevard, according to San Diego police.

The man continued on to the south, merging onto Interstate 805 and exiting at Home Avenue before turning around, getting back onto I-805 and entering eastbound state Route 94, Officer Travis Easter said.

Just east of 47th Street, the fleeing motorist pulled over, jumped out of the vehicle and ran off. Officers released a service dog, which charged and bit him, prompting him to surrender.

The man’s name was not immediately available.

Police detained the driver’s companion for questioning.

The chase lasted about five minutes, Easter said.
