Two male companions brought the victim — who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body — to Coronado Hospital. They were detained by police for questioning, according to Lt. Anthony Dupree of the San Diego Police Department Homicide Unit.

The two companions said an incident happened in the 3300 block of Olivewood Terrace and police were further investigating that claim.

Police also surrounded Coronado Hospital while the investigation was ongoing.
