Police searching for driver in fatal hit-and-run

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – San Diego police Monday are searching for an SUV driver who sped off after fatally striking a 23-year-old man in Chollas Creek.

The man was struck while standing in the center divide of the 5200 block of University Avenue about 6:20 p.m. Sunday, according to San Diego police Officer Robert Heims.

A westbound dark Lincoln Navigator swerved toward the man and struck him, then continued over the center divider and was last seen turning south onto 52nd Street, Heims said in a statement.

The man died at the scene. His name was withheld pending next of kin notification.
