Police searching for Poway sexual assault suspect

POWAY (CNS) – Authorities searched Tuesday for a man who grabbed a female
pedestrian in Poway, forced her to the ground and sexually assaulted her,
police said.

The assault occurred in the 12400 block of Vaughan Road near Pomerado
Road shortly after 10 p.m. Monday, according to San Diego County sheriff's Sgt.
Tim Matzkiw. The woman was walking westbound when the man grabbed her and
attempted to force her into a nearby drainage ditch, he said.

She fought back, holding onto a chain-linked fence to keep from going
into the ditch, before eventually being forced to the ground and suffering a
sexual assault, Matzkiw said.

The woman then kicked the man off her, and he fled westbound on Vaughan
Road, Matzkiw said.

Deputies searched the area by ground and air but failed to find the
assailant. He was described as Hispanic and possibly in his early 20s, with
short hair and a goatee. Matzkiw said he wore a dirty white T-shirt and dark
sweatpants.
