I-805 clogged due to potential jumper

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A suicidal man threatening to jump from an Interstate 805 overpass in North Park Wednesday forced a nearly complete closure of the freeway for about two hours while authorities safely talked him off the span.

The man was spotted on the Adams Avenue bridge shortly before 9 a.m., according to San Diego police.

Authorities closed the east-west thoroughfare in both directions between Ohio Street and Mountain View Drive, along with the entire southbound side of the freeway at Interstate 8 and all but one northbound lane south of Adams Avenue.

The California Highway Patrol advised northbound drivers to use State Route 94 to access northbound I-5 or SR-15, and southbound motorists to take SR-52 to get to southbound I-5 or SR-15. Southbound traffic south of SR-52 was detoured onto I-8.

Officers took the distraught man into custody without incident shortly before 11 a.m., after which all affected traffic lanes were reopened, the CHP reported.
