Poway and several East County communities implement curfews yesterday

POWAY (KUSI) – The City of San Diego does not have a curfew, but several other cities in San Diego County have decided to implement one.

La Mesa, El Cajon, Lemon Grove and Poway are some of the communities under a curfew Monday night.

After protesters took to the streets of Poway over the weekend, a scene being played out in communities across the United States as demonstrators call for an end to racially biased practices by some police.

The Poway protest was peaceful, and Poway Mayor Steve Vaus says he wants the demonstrations in his city to stay that way. Vaus told KUSI’s Sasha Foo that he has information from the San Diego Sheriff’s Department and the FBI that outside agitators want to come in and cause trouble. By ordering a curfew from 8:00 P.M., through 5:30 A.M., Vaus believes he can ensure that his city does not see the kind of mayhem that erupted in La Mesa and Downtown San Diego over the weekend.

Vaus said, “Keeping our community safe is always going to be the top priority and that includes people that come to visit our community. We wanted to keep the protesters safe.”

KUSI’s Sasha Foo has the details.
