Poway Titans 39, Bonita Vista Barons 7
The Poway Titans roll to a 39-7 victory over Bonita Vista in Week 1.
From the first drive, Poway (1-0) controlled the line of scrimmage both offensively and defensively forcing the hand of Bonita Vista. Quarterback Franklin Forbes was consistently alluding pressure when dropping back due to an ineffective run game and falling behind early. However, the Senior QB did show shades of greatness making something out of nothing with his legs and arm as he hit Ricky Torres on a 17-yard-touchdown pass scrambling through a tree of Titans.
Poway powered through the end zone on their first two offensive possessions. It helped as they began their drives in Baron territory. Bryce Tregoning had a 1-yard touchdown run after the interception from teammate Nathan Green. The second drive began on the 45 and ended with the best run of the night as RB Donovan Bercasio bounced off defenders and separated from the secondary for a 35-yard touchdown run. The Titans added another score right before the half as Garrett Van Nostrand found a lane on a QB keeper and scored from 11 yards out to make it 19-7 at the half.
The third quarter was the sloppiest of the four as both teams gave up the ball on back-to-back possessions. It was the Junior Justin Kramer who put the game away in the fourth quarter with a 4-yard score and a 1-yard score to add to Josh Butler’s 6-yard touchdown run late in the fourth.
The Titans will look to have another strong start to the season proceeding last seasons start of eight straight win to open the season. They will look to keep that going against Lincoln (1-0) who beat Chula Vista 54-20.
Bonita Vista (0-1) will get another crack at home as they take on the San Marcos Knights (1-0) who beat Vista 38-22.

The Poway Titans, a power house in the North County, travel south to battle the Bonita Vista Barons in opening week action.
Both football programs play in respectable leagues, Poway in the Palomar League and Bonita Vista out of the Metro-Mesa, and have stacked their pre-league schedule as most pronounced programs have become accustomed to do.
Poway’s Head Coach Scott Coats looks to improve on his 18-7 record through his first two seasons. Coats led the Titans to 10-2 record in 2016 opening the season with eight straight wins. He will rely on Junior WR Noah Araujo to power the Titans attack on offense catching eight touchdown passes last season. On defense, MLB Donovan Bercasio will be a key component as he led the defense in tackles last year.
Bonita Vista went out during the off season and brought in Aaron Jones from Madison High School to run the program. Jones comes from one of the best football programs in the County under the tutelage of Rick Jackson and will bring a quality of football that could turn around last year’s 3-7 record.
After last season’s 33-14 loss to Poway. the Barons will try for redemption as they have tough sledding ahead after losing more than 20 seniors last year to graduation.
