Pregnant woman injured in street racing crash in National City

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — A young couple expecting a baby were hit with a new set of worries Wednesday after they were struck head-on by a driver suspected of street racing.

She was transported to a local hospital with severe abdominal pain.

The couple was hit head-on in a hit-and-run crash by one of two cars believed to be involved in a street race near the intersection of Palm Avenue and Division Street at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Witnesses said two vehicles were racing eastbound on Division Street toward the intersection when one of the vehicles lost control, and crashed into three vehicles.

Both vehicles then left the scene.

An alert Navy sailor who saw the accident followed both vehicles throughout western National City and was able to get both license plate numbers.

This is just one of several street racing accidents within the past few days.

On Sunday, officers arrested Jesus Figeuroa, a 26-year-old father, for leading officers on a 100-mile an hour chase resulting in a crash after he was allegedly street racing on the I-15 with his 6-month-old infant in the backseat.
