Preview: Alarm Clock Pep Rally Game of the Week: Grossmont Foothillers vs. Helix Highlanders

The week 10 Alarm Clock Pep Rally Game featured Grossmont taking on Helix in a Battle of the Musket that will remain with the Scotties. The Highlanders winning 45-21 for the 26th consecutive year against the Foothillers.

Helix leading by just three after a 40 yard field goal in the final minutes of the first half. Grossmont asserted themselves. Very first Helix possession the Foothiller’s Andrew Mink recovered a fumble and Hunter Gaines found Jailen Bailey for a 10 yard touchdown that capitalized on the turnover. Gaines would find Bailey later in the half and also hit Domonique Guevara on a long touchdown throw. Helix would not be outdone. Carson Baker found Scott Young for the 8 yard score and a touchdown run by Zeke Noa helped put the Scotties back up by 7. Noa would score again in the 2nd quarter. 

The momentum changed for the Scotties late in the second when they were able to establish the run with a combination of the Noa’s. Freshman Elelyon Noa finished the game with 160 yards and one touchdown. Zeke would finish with two touchdowns and 87 yards. Evan Perkins came up with the big pick six in the 3rd that put the game in the Scotties hands. 


This week’s Alarm Clock Pep Rally Game of the Week takes us to Helix as they host Grossmont High School. They are playing for the musket that has been awarded to the victor since 1952. Both teams are 3-0 in the Grossmont Hills League.

The Scotties are 6-2 and on a four game winning streak. The team is led by junior quarterback Carson Baker who has thrown for 1,793 yards and 16 touchdowns this season. They also lean heavily on senior Ezekiel Noa who is a disruptive linebacker and has also carried the rock for 235 yards and four touchdowns this year. Their top receivers are Scott Young, eight touchdowns and 709 yards, and Rashad Scott, three touchdowns and 465 yards.

The Foothillers are 8-0 this season under head coach Tom Karlo. They are led by senior quarterback Hunter Gaines. Gaines has thrown for 1,911 yards and 24 touchdowns this season. They are a two headed rushing monster with James Mackey and Shevell Sterling Jr.  who have combined for eleven touchdowns this season. Dominique Guevara is the top receiver with 58 receptions and twelve touchdowns. On the defensive side linebacker Christopher Laethem has 65 total tackles.
