Week 6: Orange Glen Patriots 49, Army-Navy Warriors 0

Despite a bumpy start to the 2019 season, Orange Glen looked like a whole new team offensively Friday night, shutting out Army-Navy, 49-0.

Senior running back Cael Patterson was a big factor in the Patriots’ win over the Warriors, rushing for over 200 yards and four touchdowns. His longest touchdown of the night came at the beginning of the second quarter, totaling 70 yards to the house. The captain’s other three touchdowns were distances of 48, 53, and 26 yards.

Army-Navy struggled offensively for most of the night. Caleb Clark was picked off on his own 10-yard line, which was returned for a touchdown. Army-Navy also muffed a punt in the last minute of the first quarter, which set up Patterson’s third touchdown of the night for 26-yards.

Orange Glen (2-3) will host the undefeated Bishop’s Knights (5-0) for Week 6 of the Prep Pigskin Report. The Knights are coming off a dominating win over Francis Parker, 53-13.

Army-Navy (2-3) will have a Saturday game against Escondido Charter (2-3), which will be played at Orange Glen High School.

The Orange Glen Patriots made history last season becoming the first high school football team in Escondido to advance to the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) state championship game.

In a close match, the Patriots fell, 24-13, to Lincoln High School in the Division 6-A title game but walked away with one of the best seasons in Orange Glen history.

Their journey has been a little bumpy this fall, starting off the season 1-3. With three straight losses, the Patriots are hoping to come out victorious in Week 6 of the Prep Pigskin Report and get back on course for another successful season.

The Patriots will be hosting Army Navy (2-2), which is coming off a 21-2 win over Excelsior Charter, this Friday. The Warriors haven’t had a winning season since 2015, the year Nehemiah Brunson took over as head coach, but are on track for eclipsing the three-season hiatus.

The 2018 season was the first time these two teams crossed paths. The Patriots came out on top with a 19-17 victory, but there’s potential the Warriors could tie up the series this Friday.

Who will walk home victorious Friday night?
