Bonita Vista 14, Otay Ranch 13

South Bay rivals faced off in a thriller that came down to the final drive as Otay Ranch kicker Alec Cortez missed the game winning attempt wide right from 29-yards out clinching a spectacular 4th quarter comeback Bonita Vista to defeat Otay Ranch 14-13.

Trailing 13-0 in the fourth quarter, Barons sophomore quarterback Anthony Posada faced a third and 21 from midfield. Posada found junior receiver Ethan Williams across the middle and he was gone for a touchdown. On the next Baron ppossession junior running back Barrington Miller took a draw up the middle, burst through the hole and found daylight. The announcer shouted he could, go, all, the, way as he finished off an incredible 68-yard touchdown to take the lead with less than five minutes remaining.

Otay Ranch wasn’t out of it yet however. Bonita Vista kicked it short in an attempt to recover the ball but it rolled just out of bounds as the Barons dived on it, resulting in a penalty and giving the Mustangs the ball on their own 40. Junior quarterback Arturo Saenz then converted a huge third and ten to junior tightend Ennovy Halton. Saenz then faced a 4th and 4, where he scrambled and tossed the ball up to Halton, who snagged it with one hand to convert the first down at the Baron 13-yard line. Otay Ranch ran the clock down to less than 30 seconds before attempting the potential game winning field goal, that missed wide right.

Otay Ranch put the first points on the board in the third quarter to take a 6-0 lead. Bonita Vista drove down the field on their next ppossession but a 37-yard field goal was blocked by Mustang junior Hector Gonzalez. Otay Ranch drove
