Carlsbad 0, Oceanside 38

Sometimes when teams come off bye weeks, you lose that routine of playing every week and that rhythm. That’s what happened to Oceanside’s offense in the first half of this game vs. Carlsbad. The second half was a different story. Oceanside’s defense though, was there all game as if they hadn’t lost a beat. The Pirates raise the Jolly Roger again as they sunk Carlsbad, 38-0. Oceanside is now 11-0 in 2014 and on the brink of history yet again.

Oceanside’s offense was out of sorts in the 1st half but still managed to get 10 points at halftime after some frustrating drives ending on 3rd down incomplete passes. Carlsbad made mistakes like fumbling and great teams like Oceanside took full advantage. Oceanside QB Matthew Romero made sure the offense got going in the second half and they did. Oceanside’s defense kept the Pirates at full steam all game. The Pirates ended any chance to make it close before the half by stopping the Lancers on 4th and Goal inside the Pirates 5-yard-line. Defensive front linemen Tommy Woo, Amadeo West and Jamie Harris just to name a few, made sure that shutout was completed.

The Pirates now move on to the Open playoffs semi-final with an anticipated rematch vs. #4 Mission Hills next Friday night at Oceanside High. Carlsbad meanwhile, ends their 2014 season at 5-6.
