Santana Sultans 48, Central Spartans 30

In a first half of tit for tats the Sultans sent the Spartans on the long journey home and the end of the 2015 season behind them.

Central was able to keep up with the Sultans for the first half of the game but in the end the defense was able to make crucial stops. Shortly after Santana scored Central responded with a short drive from just 1  yard out. Then they game would go back and forth with Santana scoring once on a QB keep and again on a safety to take the lead by 2, (16-14). The defense for both sides was unable to stop the other, until the second half.

Hosts Santana pulled out all the stops even a pitch-reverse that threw off the Central defense. However the name of the night was Bobby Wallace. He scored almost all the drives for the Sultans in the 2nd half for a total of 183 yards and 5 TD’s. The defense stepped up tremendously and got big stops for the Sultans to hold the Spartan offense.

Unfortunately this game had many injuries and the game was even ended a earlier due to a severe injury (Central) in which the player needed medical attention. The PPR has him in our thoughts and prayers.

The Sultans will go on to play the Centurions of University City next week.

PREVIEW: We’ve reached that point in the high school football season where it’s all or nothing. Yea, you guessed it, PLAYOFFS! Teams have been fighting all season for this week’s bid and now is their time to show what they’ve been working for all season. First round of playoffs brings Central High School hailing from El Centro to the home team from Santee, Santana High.

The Spartans come into Friday’s match up 4-6, with their last loss being a tough one. Central dropped the ball last Friday only scoring 7 points to Brawley’s 35. In last week’s bout the Spartans couldn’t get their offense rolling despite having equal amount of carries compared to their opponent. It seemed every yard was most definitely earned. It’s only expected that Central will have a “Go Hard or Go Home” mentality, so it will be an exciting game to watch.

As for the Sultans they ended the regular season 6-4, and placed 3rd in the pretty competitive Grossmont League. Much like their opponent Santana is coming off a hard loss to Granite Hills (41-13). The Sultans will most definitely be looking to avenge last week’s performance. A key player to be on the lookout for is Junior RB, Bobby Wallace, who’s been putting up crucial numbers for the Sultans, hopefully he can keep the momentum going when they need it most.

These two teams haven’t played each other since 2012 which resulted in a Santana loss (34-31). The long awaited 3-year matchup is finally here, will the Sultans be able to turn the tables? Or will the Spartans surprise us all?

Kickoff is set for 7 P.M. Friday at Santana, but if you can’t make the game be sure to watch all the highlights on the Prep Pigskin Report, only on KUSI!
