Nelson Photo Pigskin Idol Game of the Week: Christian Patriots 61, Scripps Ranch Falcons 19

With regular season coming to an end, many schools are trying to make their playoff push.  Tonight, the Christian Patriots dominated the Scripps Ranch Falcons with a final score of 61-19.  The Patriots record is now 7-2 and 3-1 in the Eastern League whereas the Falcons record is 1-8 and 0-3 in league.

By the look of the score, one would think the game was not close.  However, at one point, it was.. In the first quarter, the Falcons get on the board first with a field goal by Matthew Killam.  But the Patriots would answer back after wasting a little over a minute on the clock with a 12-yard touchdown run by Nashom Carter making the score 7-3 in favor of Christian. Javier Jimenez would find a gap and take it 12 yards for a Patriots touchdown extending their lead 14-3.

In the second quarter, Daniel Cox would connect with Matthew Tolliver for a three-yard touchdown pass, 14-10 Christian.  But leave it to Brad Jeremiah to help pull the Patriots far out of the Falcons reach.  Jeremiah tapping in to his inner Tom Brady by connecting to Bryce Riepl for the 53-yard touchdown pass.

The Patriots took the lead and never looked back.  Next week, they head to El Cajon Valley High School to take on the Point Loma Pointers (6-3, 3-1).  The Scripps Ranch Falcons will host the Mission Bay Buccaneers for their final home game of the season.

PREVIEW: Though it may not seem like it considering the recent days San Diego has been having, the nights are starting to feel cooler and the sun is setting earlier, which can only mean regular season is coming to an end.  Teams are looking to top their division and make the push for playoffs.  The Christian Patriots (6-2, 2-1) and Scripps Ranch Falcons (1-7, 0-2) face off for an Eastern League matchup at Scripps Ranch.

Last week, the Patriots tried to fight their way to the top of the Eastern League standings but were denied by Lincoln with a 20-7 loss.  Christians’ defense contributed to last week’s game with a few fumble recoveries and interceptions.  But the offense could not execute and missed opportunities to capitalize on such efforts by the defense.  It all starts with quarterback Brad Jeremiah and his offensive line.  Jeremiah has been given the time to throw 191 completions for a total of 2,507 passing yards on the season thus far.

For the home team, Scripps Ranch’s quarterback, Daniel Cox, contributed to their short rally with a touchdown of his own before falling to Morse 48-13.  Though the Falcons have a large roster of about 50, it won’t mean much if they can’t execute.  Coach Marlon Gardinera has said in previous weeks that the outcomes of Friday nights are based on how well the team can come together and compete.
