San Diego Cavers 27, Chula Vista Spartans 0

The San Diego Cavers beat the Chula Vista Spartans in the Division IV quarter-final matchup 27-0.

The Cavers were outstanding on defense all game long pitching a shutout against a Chula Vista team that had just scored 31 points the week before.

The game started with a long 8 minute San Diego drive ending with a 3 yard touchdown by Jayden Wickware 7-0 Cavers.

The next big play came when San Diego’s CJ Johnson had an interception that he returned 33 yards all the way to the 2 yard line.

On the very next play from scrimmage Quinn O’Connor hit Johnson for a 2 yard touchdown to go up 14-0. That is where the score stayed until halftime.

The third quarter saw two teams battle for no points.

In the fourth quarter the Cavers decided they wanted to close it out and head to the semi-finals.

After another long drive Raiden Hunter pounded the ball in from 2 yards out to go up 21-0.

As Chula Vista went into desperation mode Daniel Thomas picked off a Spartan pass and took it back 37 yards for the pick six.

Those would be all points necessary for San Diego as they went on to win 27-0.

Next up for the Cavers will be a semi-final battle against Santana at Balboa Stadium.

Preview: The ninth seeded Chula Vista Spartans will travel to San Diego High School to take on the top-seeded Cavers. It is one of the most exciting playoff matchups of the night. It is a Division IV matchup.

This will be the first time the two teams will have met in over a decade.

For the Spartans, balance is an important part of their offense. The Spartans have six different rushers who have 100 yards or more this season.

Carlos Serratos, Carlos Jimenez, Angel Jimenez, Andre Stewart, Jerry Hernandez, and Alfonso Hernandez are in the triple digits in rushing this season.

On the defensive side of the ball, Dylan Sallee has been a force for Chula Vista. Sallee has 60 tackles on the season so far with a sack.

For the 1 seed in the division the San Diego Cavers, Quinn O’Connor has been a standout for the Caver offense he has 13 throwing touchdowns and 2 rushing touchdowns this season.

Jayden Wickware has also been one of the biggest threats in the county all season long. Wickware has found the end zone 6 times both rushing and receiving.

On defense, Senior Eric Orfanos has been a big reason for the Cavers’ winning record. Orfanos has 49 tackles on the season.

It will be a battle between the balanced offenses that have both running and throwing threats a plenty.
