Classical Academy Caimans 21, Army Navy Warriors 14

The latest week of CIF football was full of exciting highlights, and the game between the hosting Army-Navy Warriors and Classical Academy Caimans brought plenty! Classical Academy’s running back Jake Gilbert led the way with over 190 rushing yards as his Caimans were able to hold off the Warriors late in a 21-14 win.

Gilbert’s dominant night started early with a 27 yard touchdown run in the 1st quarter to give Classical Academy a 7-0 lead. Daoshang Wang evened thing up later in the quarter with a 43 yard pick six to tie the game at 7. Right before halftime Army-Navy defensive back Paul Ferraro was hurt in a helmet to helmet collision with his own teammate. He had to be brought to the hospital by ambulance, but fortunately the initial report is that he will be fine.

Both teams traded interceptions in the 3rd quarter thanks to the play of the Caiman’s Nate McCarthy and Warrior’s Jose Guerrero. The 4th would be when all the excitement began, starting off with Jake Gilbert’s second touchdown run of the night from 43 yards out. That score would put the Caiman’s up 21-7, but the Warrior’s offense responded quickly with an 11 yard touchdown by running back Emilio Dipp. Army-Navy was unable to close the gap and send the game into overtime, but the fight they put up was impressive. Now at 2-3 the Warriors hope to bounce back against Tri-City Christian, while the 3-2 Classical Academy hope to secure win number 4 in a row against San Diego. Tune in next week for all the action on the Prep Pigskin Report!

Preview: We’re already almost halfway through the 2017 CIF football season, and it hasn’t disappointed! One of the many games the Prep Pigskin Report will be highlighting this week is between the Classical Academy Caimans and the Army-Navy Warriors. Both sit at 2-2 and are coming off of wins, so this game will be a huge momentum boost for the victor.

Classical Academy came out of the gate slow at 0-2 but have bounced back in dominating fashion. The Caimans scored 40+ points in their next two games to come into this matchup even with a .500 record. Running back Jake Gilbert has spearheaded the offensive onslaught with over 350 combined yards in the two victories, and the defense has complimented him perfectly. The unit was able to grab 7 interceptions in last weeks win over Marantha Christian. If they can get even just a little close to that performance then it could be a long night for Army-Navy.

Strong performances in the last two games don’t automatically make Classical Academy the favorite. Army-Navy is still a team to be reckoned with, led by the rushing attack of Hadi Assi and Dylon Zipse. The Warriors are well-balanced on offense thanks to wide receiver Jim Hart. Hart has been a critical part of this Warriors team, grabbing 16 of the 34 passes the Caiman receivers have caught this year. It will be imperative for Classic Academy to contain him if they want to continue winning. Tune into the Prep Pigskin Report this Friday and find out who walks away 3-2!
