Classical Academy 27, Foothills Christian 7
Knight fans gathered to Junior Seau field for Foothills Christian’s homecoming and senior night. Looking for their first victory, the Knights came out determined to keep it close with junior quarterback Wyatt Basson on the sideline with an injury.
Sophomore Daniel Hoffman filled in for the Knights, but it was Classical Academy senior Caiman quarterback Mark Fuson who scored two first half touchdowns en route to a 27-7 victory over the Foothills Christian Knights.
Turnovers haunted both teams from start to finish as they combined for nine total turnovers beginning on the first play of the game when Foothills fumbled it away. Classical Academy failed to capitalize however as the Knights blocked a field goal attempt. Foothills Christian failed to convert on a 4th and 5 at the Caiman 35-line .
Classical Academy took the ball to the Knight 40 when they faced a 4th and 12. Foothills intercepted the pass but the Knights fumbled the ball right back on the next play. Junior running back Aaron Vansant made a big cutback for a 17-yard gain and then finished the drive with the games first touchdown for a 7-0 lead. The Caimans scored again quickly, this time it was Fuson to senior EJ Cooper for a 70-yard catch and run. After the Caiman defense came up with an interception, Fuson broke away on a quarterback keeper for an 18-yard touchdown and 20-0 lead.
An onside kick opened the half as Foothills won possession as Hoffman dove on the ball. The Knights could not capitalize but they pinned the Caimans deep and the defense forced a punt attempt that went wrong as the punter was tackled on the Caiman 2-yard line, setting up Hoffman for a touchdown on the next play, 20-7.
