Coronado Islanders 21, Maranatha Christian Eagles 13
The Coronado Islanders pulled off their first victory of the 2018 football season defeating the Maranatha Christian Eagles 21-13.
The Islanders quarterback, junior Colter Maldonado, showed out tonight carrying his team to a win. Maldonado came out in the first quarter making a 64-yard touchdown pass to receiver James Witthoft bringing the score to 7-0.
Maranatha was quick to respond with a 57- yard touchdown run tying the game up 7-7.
Maldonado and the Islanders came back and responded with a 21-yard touchdown run, made by non other than Maldonado himself.
The Eagles try to make a come back and they succeed in the middle of the second quarter with a 5-yard touchdown pass to No. 7 E.J. Wiksten bringing the score to a close 14-13.
Heading into the third quarter the Coronado Islanders have the play of the game. It was fourth down and the Islanders were trying to advance their lead, they line up for a field goal and fake it running the ball into the end zone for a 2-yard touchdown.
The Maranatha Eagles did not make a come back bringing the final score to 21-13.

PREVIEW- Football is back ready to kick off this Friday night at 6:30 pm. The Coronado Islanders take on The Maranatha Christian Eagles at home in a non- conference matchup. The Islanders will be led by head coach Kurt Hines and the Eagles are led by head coach Kyle Duggin.
The Division IV Coronado Islanders finished last year with an overall record of 3-8. Their 2017 season concluded in the playoffs in the first round against Chula Vista High School. The Islanders look forward to starting the season at home in 2018. Running back Max Baker finished 2017 with 90 yards receiving and 125 yards rushing, 215 all-purpose yards. On the other side of the ball accumulating 28 total tackles and 3 Sacks. Along with Colton Cline in 2017 finished with 18 total tackles, 1 fumble recovery and a blocked kick. Look for running the ball as the Islanders look to get back to the playoffs in 2018 with high expectations.
The Maranatha Christian Eagles come in ranked at number six in the Pre-Season Division V rankings. The Eagles 2017 football season concluded in the playoffs losing 13-7 against Classical Academy on the season overall finishing with a record of 6-4. They come into the 2018 Season ready to fight. The FS, WR Logan Godwin in 2017 finished with 485 yards receiving and 758 all-purpose yards. Along with the Josh Allen in 2017 finished with 16 Solo, 68 total tackles with 4 Total Sacks. Despite the challenge of a limited roster, don’t count the Eagles out. Expect an entire team clash in what looks to be a battle on Friday Night.
