Vista Panthers 22, Del Norte Nighthawks 0

The (1-4) Vista Panthers mauled the (1-4) Del Norte Nighthawks 22-0 to cap off a special homecoming night. The Panthers imposed their will on the Nighthawks all night and controlled the game. There was never any doubt that the Panthers would come out victorious in this contest.

Early in the game, the Panthers running attack set the tempo. Senior running backs Zach Morel and Brandon Price along with the junior, Nico Rosas, found space to operate in the trenches and gashed the Nighthawks for big gains all night. Morel found the end zone in the first quarter and after the offense stalled twice, Chris Statler converted two field goals before the half giving the Panthers a comfortable 15-0 lead.

While the Panthers offense was running all over the Nighthawks, the Panther defense was playing lights-out. The Panthers forced three turnovers and were constantly putting pressure on Nighthawk quarterback Jack Moore. The Nighthawks could not find a way past the Panther’s physical defense and got shut out for the second time this season.

The Nighthawks fall to 1-5 and will be hoping to put up some points when they welcome the San Marcos Knights at Del Norte next week. The Vista Panthers improve to 2-4 and will look to stick to winning ways when they welcome the El Camino Wildcats next week.

PREVIEW: In Week 7, the (1-4) Del Norte Nighthawks travel to Vista to take on the (1-4) Panthers. The Panthers are coming off a close loss to the La Costa Canyon Mavericks and will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak come Friday night. The Nighthawks, on the other hand, just ended their four-game slide after shutting out the Escondido Charter White Tigers last week. Both teams are trying to salvage their seasons and will be desperate for a win.

Last season, the Vista Panthers came into Del Norte High School and routed the Nighthawks 35-0. The Panthers ran for over 300 yards and punched the ball into the end zone twice on their way to victory. However, the players who accumulated those statistics have since graduated and the Panthers are finding a hard time replacing them.

The Panthers defense suffocated the Nighthawks attack and forced 6 turnovers. Nighthawk’s senior quarterback Parker Lappin was picked off 5 times by the Panthers. Del Norte’s junior quarterback Jake Moore takes over from him and will be looking to silence the Panther crowd under the lights.

The Nighthawks and Panthers kickoff at 7 p.m. on Friday night and the Red Jacket Army will be there to catch all the action. Make sure to tune to KUSI’s Prep Pigskin Report at 10:30 to watch all the highlights!
