El Cajon Ford East County Game of the Week: West Hills Wolfpack 31, Serra Conquistadors 14

It was fireworks for the West Hills Wolfpack’s homecoming match up against Serra on Friday in our El Cajon Ford East County Game of the Week.  The Pack opened the scoring early with a Hayden Roach to Ryan Jewell 10 yard touchdown pass to go ahead 7-0.

After a several miscues, including a missed field goal and a fumble on a 2nd and goal play that was recovered by Serra, the Pack added another score in the second quarter.  Griffin “Moose” Guinn punched in a short touchdown to put West Hills ahead 14-0.

On the ensuing drive Mitchell Carlin hauled in an interception for the Pack D, and returned it down to the two yard line.  On the next play “Moose” found the end zone again and West Hills went into the half up 21-0.

Serra got on the board in the fourth quarter.  Quarterback Joaquin Quintana-McKinney completed a fourth down pass to Ty Dixon to keep the Q-Dogs alive.  The 69 yard drive was capped with a Bryan Pratt touchdown.

The Pack got some points back with a Cade Weaver field goal.  Serra responded with their biggest offensive play of the game, a 77 yard touchdown connection between Quintana-McKinney and Dixon but it wasn’t enough to catch West Hills who improved to 4-1 with the 31-14 victory.

PREVIEW:  Week Five of the Prep Pigskin Report brings the El Cajon Ford East County Game of the Week to West Hills High School.  The Wolfpack (3-1) are hosting the Serra Conquistadors (1-2) on the blue turf.

The Q-Dogs, led by first year Head Coach Dru Smith, have already tied their win total from 2015.  After being shut out in week one, Serra has been much more successful putting points on the board this season than they were last year.  This is due, in large part, to the stalwart and seasoned O-line.  The solid line has allowed Junior Running Back Bryan Pratt (192 yards rushing in last two games) and Senior Quarterback Joaquin Quintana-McKinney to spark the Q-Dogs offensive attack.

However, Serra will face a challenge with the Pack who are riding the momentum of an overtime 29-28 win against Mt. Miguel last week and a come from behind victory against Mission Bay the previous week.  Junior Quarterback Hayden Roach is boasting a 60% completion percentage through the first 4 games and has thrown only one interception.  He also punched in the winning two point conversion in last week’s victory and is the second leading rusher on the squad.  The primary ball carrier, Senior Jovan Bea, is a force to be reckoned with and has found the end zone six times already this season.

We will have pregame coverage on the Friday Pre-PR at 5pm and 6pm as well as extensive highlights from this featured match up during the new, extended 90 minute Prep Pigskin Report starting at 10:30pm.
