Rancho Bernardo Broncos 28, El Camino Wildcats 17

A top 10 matchup went down to the last minute at Rancho Bernardo High School last night.  But the Broncos came out on top against the El Camino Wildcats, the final score was 28-17.

Both defenses were strong in the first half, with the halftime score of 3-0 El Camino leading.  Despite a slow start, both teams eventually turned on the jets.

Wildcats’ Chris Brown took off on a 49 yard touchdown run to put El Camino up 10-0 early in the third.  But here comes Rancho Bernardo, Kaelan Pestano ran it in from 10 yards out to get the Broncos on the board.  Then on their following punt, the Wildcats fumbled and the Broncos recovered.  That set up Mark Salazar throwing a 30 yard TD pass to Malcolm Ross-Turner.  Broncos went up 14-10.

To open up the 4th quarter, Wildcats’ Chris Brown scored a 4 yard touchdown run giving El Camino the lead, 17-14.  Broncos began marching down the field to come back, but Salazar gave the ball back to the Wildcats after fumbling on a scramble.  But almost immediately after, Rancho Bernardo recovered an El Camino fumble.

Following that recovery, the Broncos scored twice more to seal the deal.  Broncos’ QB Mark Salazar capped off the night going 14 for 26, 174 passing yards, and 2 passing touchdowns.

Next week the Broncos will travel to Otay Ranch to take on the Mustangs and El Camino will return home to face Citrus Hill from Perris.
