Torrey Pines Falcons 7, El Camino Wildcats 3

Torrey Pines and El Camino both had strong defensive outings, but it was the Falcons that walked away with the win on Friday night.  The final score in this one was 7-3.

Both teams kept the ball on the ground for the majority of the game.  The first highlight of the night came from the Falcons as they would score their only touchdown.  Sully O’Brien carried the rock 62 yards to the house to put Torrey Pines up 7-0.

Opening up the second half, El Camino got on the board with a 30 yard field goal by Elias Jacobsen.  But it was really the defenses that played a major role.

The Wildcats recovered a Falcon fumble and intercepted them as well in the second half.  But the Torrey Pines defense had some major tackles for losses and sacks on the quarterback.  And they were able to contain El Camino’s running back, Chris Brown.

Next week the Falcons will face the Westview Wolverines, who are 1-3 on the season so far.  El Camino will take on the 3-1 San Marcos Knights at home.

PREVIEW: This Friday, the Red Jackets will travel to Torrey Pines High School to watch the Falcons take on the El Camino Wildcats.  It is both teams’ first Avocado West matchup of the season.

El Camino is coming off of a loss to Citrus Hill out of Perris, 54-21.  QB Jadan Casey was out last week due to injury, so it was on RB Chris Brown to carry the team on offense.  But the Wildcats went the entire first half without scoring, they were down 42-0.  The Wildcats eventually scored three times but it wasn’t enough.  This is the second straight loss for El Camino, after losing 28-17 to Rancho Bernardo two weeks ago.

The Falcons earned a shutout win against the Fallbrook Warriors last week, the score was 20-0.  After the first half the score remained 0-0, but Torrey Pines eventually got on the board.  The Luke Duerr 10 yard TD run turned out to be the first points the team had scored since Week 1 after being shutout by Santa Fe Christian, 31-0, last week.

The last time these two teams played each other was Week 9 of last season, Torrey Pines won 17-13.  Catch the highlights from this game and all others around San Diego every Friday at 10:30 p.m., only on KUSI’s Prep Pigskin Report.
