Week 11: Grossmont Foothillers 49, El Capitan Vaqueros 21

Grossmont may have had a 2-7 record heading into Friday night’s game, but they sure didn’t play like it. The team dominated early and never looked back as the Foothillers defeated the El Capitan Vaqueros, 42-21.

Jaime Odom was the driving force behind the Foothillers’ great start. The receivers were vital as well. Desmond Carter took Odom’s pass 21 yards for the first score, and Damari Crawford went 34 yards to the house to make it 14-0 Foothillers.

Odom’s third touchdown pass of the half was to Zak Farris for an 11-yard score.

The Vaqueros’ Austin Baker bobbled the ensuing kickoff a little bit but it didn’t seem to matter; he scored on a kick return from 87 yards out.

Only down 14, it was El Capitan’s big chance to make it a game. Grossmont had other ideas, and the defense delivered. Alex Golujuch returned a fumble he recovered all the way to the end zone.

It was too much of a deficit for El Capitan at that point, and Grossmont walked away victorious.

Both teams are now 3-7 and may have a lower playoff spot. They surely will be eagerly waiting for the matchups to come out. Stay with the Prep Pigskin Report next week as playoff football begins.

PREVIEW: It’s hard to believe that there’s only one week of football left before the playoffs start, but just like any other week the Prep Pigskin Report will bring you all the action throughout the county, The 3-6 El Capitan Vaqueros and 2-7 Grossmont Foothillers may have their minds on bouncing back next season but they will still definitely take this game seriously.

El Capitan got their third win of the year last week in a strong performance that led to a 42-21 win over Valhalla.

Quarterback Wick Hauser is one of the players that the Vaqueros can look forward most to having back next season. The junior has thrown for 14 touchdowns and only six interceptions this year. His teammate, running back Danny Green, is averaging nearly seven yards-per-carry, so expect both these players to have good nights in their final regular season game.

It’s possible that this game is an exciting shootout. El Capitan scored 42 points last week while Grossmont put up 38 in a loss to Steel Canyon.

Jaime Odom is also a very talented junior quarterback. His 15 touchdowns to six interceptions are just as impressive numbers as his opponent on the other side of the field. He has a very diverse group of running backs and receivers. Grossmont has four running backs who run ran for over 100 yards this year and five receivers with over 200 yards.

Expect this to be a great game regardless of the teams records going in. Tune into the Prep Pigskin Report this Friday for all the highlights.
