Escondido Charter 37, Army-Navy Academy 0

The White Tigers of Escondido Charter spoiled Senior Night at Army-Navy Academy as they achieved their first win of the 2014 season with a sound victory 37-0. Escondido Charter was just the better team tonight and diminished any hope for Army-Navy to catch up in Pacific League standings.

Escondido Charter had an interesting game plan going into Friday night. Instead of just having a normal kickoff, they either squib kicked or surprised onside kicked to the Warriors and about half the time it worked, giving Escondido Charter great field possession and kept the time of possession on their side. Army-Navy seemed to punish themselves on a few drives like in the 2nd Quarter on a 2nd and 10 play, fumbling near the red zone and Escondido Charter taking over. Those plays seemed to erase any momentum on offense for Army-Navy. Give credit to Army-Navy leader QB Chris Salisbury trying to get his sideline going and showing the Warrior spirit of never giving up.

But give all the credit to the entire White Tigers team, especially RB/OLB Mutula Kwangaba, QB James Frazier and WR Jacob Jackson, who made a nice touchdown catch for the last score of the game, still managing to keep the ball with a corner right in his face and bobbling the ball a bit. Kwangaba was the bell cow for the White Tigers, with two rushing touchdown runs in the first half.

Next week Army-Navy closes their season at Tri-City Christian in Vista at 3 p.m. and Escondido Charter closes their season on a Thursday night at Orange Glen high school vs. Foothills Christian.
