Nelson Photo Pigskin Idol Game of the Week: Escondido Cougars 42, Serra Conquistadors 10
The Week Four Nelson Photo Pigskin Idol Game of the Week had the undefeated Serra Conquistadors hosting the Escondido Cougars. But it was the Cougars who came out on top in a 42-10 win handing Serra their first loss.
To start the game, we had back to back drives with turnovers. On the Cougars possession, Conquistadors’ Benjamyn Coronado doing what he does best with the interception. But Serra would fumble giving the ball right back to the Cougars.
In the second quarter, Escondido’s Kevin Rodriguez had his second touchdown of the night on an 11 yard run putting the Cougars up 14-7. Once again in the second quarter, Rodriguez squeezes on by for a seven yard touchdown run extending the Cougars lead 21-7. Before the end of the half, Serra added some points with the field goal by Rudy Lopez making the score 21-10.
In second half, Rodriguez continued his amazing night adding two more touchdowns with one of them being for 47 yards. Rodriguez finished the night with five touchdowns but he claims “he could have played better.”
The Serra Conquistadors’ record falls to 2-1 as they get ready to host the West Hills Wolf Pack. On the other hand, the Escondido Cougars (2-2) travel to Rancho Buena Vista to face the Longhorns. Another week is in the books but another week also begins. Be sure to tune into the Prep Pigskin Report every Friday night at 10:30pm.
PREVIEW: Week Four has the Serra Conquistadors returning to their home turf as they host the Escondido Cougars (1-2). In Week One, Conquistadors’ sophomore quarterback, Timmy Zebroski, said “we’re going to go all the way” and their 2-0 record proves they are on the right track.
With their big win last week, the Conquistadors seem to have found their groove. On offense, Zebroski performed like a veteran quarterback as he threw for 230 yards on eight completions. Myles Bryant dominated with 17 carries for 196 yards and four rushing touchdowns.
Last week, Conquistador veterans Kieve Curry, TJ Silvestri, Earnesto Coleman, and Chance Cannon handled the Southwest Raiders on the defensive side. With Serra’s dominate defense, the Cougars can’t make the same mistake of multiple fumbles as they did in Week Three.
Cougars freshman quarterback Robbie Ramos Jr. looking to find his comfort zone this week by launching passes to tight end Mason Malone. Also on the offensive side for the Cougars is running back Kevin Rodriguez who knows how to maneuver with ease on the field.
Week Four brings another great matchup with two young quarterbacks leading their teams. With not many undefeated teams left, can the Serra Conquistadors continue their winning streak or will it be the Escondido Cougars handing them their first loss?
